Friends of Cleveland Bands Welcome

Greetings from the Friends of Cleveland Bands (FOCB).  We’re a parent-led, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization providing support for the CHS Band program through service and financial assistance. We work closely with Band Director Gary Riler to coordinate events throughout the year.

Although Portland Public Schools now provides some modest financial support, the overwhelming majority of the Cleveland High School Band program’s annual budget comes from fundraising. FOCB provides funds for things like sheet music, instrument purchase and maintenance, supplemental musical coaching and clinician support, event entry fees, transportation costs, and need-based student scholarships. FOCB funds help ensure that all students can participate in band regardless of financial status, and support a meaningful musical experience.

As we ease back in to a mostly normal school year, there are many ways you can participate. Many of you were kind enough to help out at last Friday’s Play-a-thon.  Thank you for helping to make for such a fantastic night!  Other opportunities to participate in the coming months include attending an FOCB meeting, chaperoning at an upcoming contest, and contributing ideas to future projects.

Visit our page at https://www.clevelandbandspdx.com/friends-of-chs-band/ to learn more about our organization and how you can participate. Complete the volunteer interest survey and make any suggestions for our students to have a successful year! Music can be a source of connection and joy in our children’s lives, and supporting the arts in our schools is an important way to offer students a well-rounded academic experience. We look forward seeing you!
